Growing conditions for traditional wasabi cultivation are moderate
temperatures and cool running water.
> Okay, after reading the past few posts on wasabi, you folks really got
my curiosity up now! Just what are the growing conditions required for
wasabi? We have been looking for a new challenge.
For information go to growers AT wasabi.co.nz. These guys will guarantee you a
market price of $50 a pound.
Problems in cultivation - the plants get to where they are just about ready
to harvest and bam! they get hit with a fungus and die... new plants need
to be started via tissue culture/cloning.
The grower in Washington State came up with a way to harvest wasabi once a
month instead of the once a year schedule of the Japanese...no wonder there
were camera-toting "tourists' trying to get at his secrets.
