I'd like to weigh in on this. We use our high tunnels to grow quality onion
transplants for our operation. We seed them in our high tunnels in Oct-Nov
rather thickly in the row/bed. They grow all winter and give us gorgeous
transplants in the spring. It allows us to do Walla Walla sweets which need
an over wintering to do their best - and outdoors here is a little too cold,
but the tunnels are perfect. We also grow bunching onions - both white and
purple - to "spice up" our winter offerings. The resulting transplants are
the best we have ever seen or grown - and the exact varieties we want.
