Hello,

I am new to this list and new to farming in general.
Up until this winter we had a small horse farm but
decided it might be more profitable and fun to grow
our own produce and sell at a modest farm stand on our
property. I have about 2-3 acres in production and,
overall, things have gone very well. I am growing
pumpkins, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, corn and
a variety of flowers for cutting. Despite the
ridiculously wet conditions here in central
Massachusetts this spring, most of my crops are doing
fine. Planting was a bit late but I shouldn't't have
any issues with fall frosts before harvest.

My specific question relates to my sweet corn. I have
about 1 and 1/2 acres planted. I bought a high
quality treated seed from Johnny's. Given my
equipment (30hp tractor w/ tiller attachment) I had a
hard time with muddy conditions. As of today, my corn
is about 3-9 inches tall but I have a lot of weeds. I
have tried to cultivate between rows but I worry that
the corn isn't stable/tall enough yet. I've heard
corn has a shallow root system and to be careful
cultivating. At this point, should I wait a little
longer or start actively weeding? If I let it grow a
little taller, should I be concerned about the weeds
"taking hold"? Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Michael
