According to a recent USDA report, the confinement livestock industry
produces five times as much manure as would be required as fertilizer on
food crops. A professor told me today his class just calculated that the
U.S. produces 2700 calories of food per person for the entire global
population.

The Smithfield operation actually produces a methanol product to be used in
conjunction with waste cooking oil and animal fats to blend for a
bio-diesel. The waste to energy community adopted the "trash to cash"
label. I wonder if the manure to energy will become "shit to shillings".

Smithfield to build biodiesel facility at Utah hog farm

Smithfield Foods will invest about $20 million in development of a facility
that converts hog waste into biodiesel fuel that can be burned in trucks and
other vehicles, the company said last week.

Smithfield will partner with BEST BioFuel LLC, which will help construct the
facility in Milford, Utah, near Smithfield's Circle Four hog production
operations.
