Hi, Folks!

Since the list is calm (and I'm actually calm after quite a week!), I'll announce that we picked up Pepper, our rescue 6-month old Border Collie last Saturday. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter in West Virginia and put up for adoption by Rescue Animal Placements in Doylestown, PA. Her sister is still available through RAP.

She had her "well-puppy" visit yesterday in which the vet told us that she is 20.9 pounds and has a strong heart (which is good because my husband Frank has been taking her on 5 mile runs!). We believe that she is "working stock" Border Collie which didn't make the herding cut because while she is intelligent and motion sensitive, she tends to watch strange animals and people rather than try to go near them. As Frank says, "She's just yellow, down to her paws." At this point, Lindsey (1/4 Maine Coon) has better retrieving ability than she does!

Overall, Pepper is remarkably quiet and seems to have a "shadow" personality -- she just wants to follow us around and plops out at our feet or by the door if we're not walking around. This makes her look like she's not very active, but if you move, she's on her feet in a flash to follow you and only Frank can outpace her outside. I bought a copy of "Dog Training for Dummies" so I've started her on the "Sit" command (she doesn't know any commands, but at least so far it looks like she's housebroken!) and we're going to go to obedience classes in January.

Unfortunately, Marlin can't save me any money because Pepper is a girl, so she'll be visiting the vet in another month for "that surgery" since it appears that ALL my neighbors have "intact" male dogs! Although I think she's going to shape up in to a *great* garden dog, one of her is (barely!) all I can handle! ;-)

Happy New Year, everyone!
