A great source for heirloom tomatoes is Marianna's heirloom seeds-
http://www.mariseeds.com/cat02.html. This is a family operation in
Middle Tennessee with a great selection and lots of info about each
variety, such as taste, best conditions, strengths and weaknesses. Our
customers favorites were the Cherokee Purple and Ernie's Plump. Ernie's
plump has been our best perfoming heirloom- less cracking, good
production, and it looks different from hybrids- it is shaped differently
and has green shoulders. Heirlooms that make customers ask "what is
this?" work for us, red round hybrid-looking heirlooms haven't been
worth the extra effort so far.
