Hi Hook family...thanks for the advice.
I look on my gettin' into market farmin' as an adventure...and hard work:-) and have my work cut out for me with so much to learn and do...but heck I ain't gonna sit in my rockin' chair yet:-) I'll be retired...whats that?:-)..five years this comin' Sept.
Right now I'm buildin' a 12' by 16' garden shed...when thats done I'm gonna build a deck on the back of the house. At some point..before winter.. my son and I have 16 cords of fire wood to cut and split. Also plan on clearin' some land on my place for my market garden. Will rent an excavator and do the stumpin' myself.
My land is on the bank of the York river...so I plan on havin' the water tested to see if I can use it to water my gardens. Also plan on puttin' up a high electric fence to keep out the critters that like to munch on my home garden and plants..:-) Probably won't do that till spring.
Ayup...I plan on statin' small and raise as good quality a product as I can. Will spend some time at the markets..as you say..to get the scoop on that part of the operation.
Got my work cut out for me:-) Before I ferget...I'm 45 miles south of Portland....and they do have a nice market under cover there.  Franklin
