All this talk about permits and inspections! Where are you folks
located? In Tennessee, farmers are pretty much left alone- no selling
permits or sales tax registration or charges if you're selling your own,
fresh product. Processing here is defined as cooking, combining
ingredients, canning, etc. All raw foods are produce, washed or
unwashed. Mostly, the state wants to stay out of farmers' business if
they're retailing or wholesaling their own produce.

The only registration that's required is by some markets. This consists
of registration with the FSA and Extension offices as a commercial
grower to avoid sales tax liability from landing on the operators.

Any of you guys that are tired of regulation of farm products want to
move here?
