So, is it ethically wrong to shop in an organic foods store that is part of a
chain? Does the chain store concept make an organic foods store
unacceptable? I'd be interested in knowing what others think about this.

Marj

Hi Marj, good question, and I'm sure there would be many mixed feelings and thoughts on this. My initial feeling is that if anything it is perhaps a good thing. The more access there is to good food for individuals and families the better off we all are. Many families and elderly shop in chain stores that offer a large variety of products purely for quick access to it - they can get everything in one place. If more companies are forced to see that people are making healthier choices they would start to supply it. This is seen in our large supermarkets with organic food being placed under a specialty section, mabe one day organic will be thought of as the norm and chemically treated food will have a little section of its own :<}

I do prefer to shop at local business and we do so on weekends when we have the time to run to the produce store, the butcher, the deli, the farmer that we can pick up eggs and milk from, and the soap shop. I believe that many don't do this either because of age, many of the elderly have a hard time shopping in so many different places, or because some consumers put their weekend time into activities and don't want to take the time out of a weekend to do this type of shopping.
