Also:

11 farmers were there on Sept 11th.  The World Trade Center Greenmarket operated two days a week and was a very lucrative market.  The farmers lost vehicles, personal belongings, product, cash, etc.  Thankfully - they do all still have their lives...however changed they will be.

>In addition to the immediate losses by farmers involved in the
>WTC farmers' market described in the last email, all farmers
>selling at Greenmarket's 27 or so locations across the city have
>been hard hit by the temporary closing of all these markets at
>the height of the season. Many markets are reopening now, but
>according to Tony Mannetta, 6 or 7 will remain temporarily or
>permanently closed due to the aftermath of Tuesday's events.
>Many farmers will be severely affected economically by the loses
>in sales resulting from this, particularly those whose
>livelihoods rely exclusively on these markets.
>
>Greenmarket itself relies almost solely on fees from the markets
>to support its operations. Tony Mannetta estimates Greenmarket
>will lose at least $100,000 in revenues as a result of the
>closings and reduced sales in the aftermath of Sept. 11th. This
>will severely hamper their ability to operate the markets
>effectively going forward. In addition, they will need resources
>to open new markets in other locations to replace those that have
>been permanently closed.
>
>An escrow fund has been established through Greenmarket's parent
>organization, Council on the Environment, to assist both
>Greenmarket itself and the most affected farmers. It is vital
>that we not allow a tragedy such as this to further damage what
>is the best farmers' market system in the country.
