JOB ANNOUNCEMENT ORGANIZER - IMMEDIATE OPENING August 16, 2001 The
National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture is a diverse network of
organizations working collaboratively to shape national policies to
foster a sustainable food and agriculture system - one that is
economically viable, socially just, environmentally sound, and humane.
We are seeking to fill a full-time position focused on capacity building
and organizing around policy education, development, and advocacy.
Responsibilities of the Organizer:
* Capacity building work with grassroots, state and regional
groups across the country: includes supporting and encouraging
grassroots and regionally directed efforts through one-on-one outreach;
assisting partner groups with recruitment, public education, and
outreach; and developing training methods and materials to build
partners' public policy development, communications and advocacy skills.

* Organizing and coordinating sustainable agriculture policy work
of grassroots, state, regional and national partners of the National
Campaign: includes establishment of communications, input and feedback
loops among diverse partners; outreach to diverse constituencies to
initiate and/or expand participation in National Campaign activities;
meeting facilitation (in-person and via phone), project planning and
implementation, collaborative development of grassroots strategies,
implementation and evaluation; production and constituent-specific
tailoring of educational materials, media advisories and articles, fact
sheets, and action alerts; initiation and monitor of grassroots action
as needed.
Qualifications:
* Experience organizing collaborative efforts of diverse groups on
policy education and advocacy
* Proven organizational and project management skills
* Strong written and verbal skills, including substantial
communications and media experience
* Ability to coordinate of variety of activities
* Strong collaboration, team building and diplomacy skills
* Ability to recruit, motivate and coordinate people across
regional/race/class/gender and cultural lines
* Proficiency with word processing, email and web communications
* Flexible schedule (national travel and some evening work
required)
* Knowledge and experience in agriculture policies a plus
* Knowledge and experience in fundraising a plus
* Commitment to promoting just and sustainable farm and food
policies through grassroots participation
* Highly motivated and able to work both independently and as a
team member
* Minimum commitment of three years
Location: Preferable location at our main office in Pine Bush, NY, a
rural community in the beautiful Hudson Valley and southern Catskill
Mountains, 75 miles northwest of the metropolitan NY area. Salary &
Benefits: $30,000-38,000 based on experience, plus benefits, full time
with flexible scheduling.
