Got invited to a "First Fruits Feast" held by new-found friends, organic
growers with a small subscription operation (amusingly almost off the
grid--except for email). I got the scoop on area markets. Apparently,
though there are several in this area, the times of operation and locations
are so scattered as to make me think twice about doing ANY fm's here. I
understand when you're dealing with local farmers/customers, neighborliness
& rapport dictate your hours, and where/how you sell.
Are there any organizations/associations for farmer's markets?? One thing
I'm finding difficult to imagine is how inconsistent fm's are (at least
here). Is standardization such a "unpc" term as to jeopardize potential
business that's just waiting for us out there?? If I were a customer, I'd
buy from the grocery store.
