The produce industry takes foodborne illness very seriously, there is a
certifying process being developed by the supermarket industry that will
exceed the organic standards in insuring all produce they buy," be it organic
or conventional", displayed in their stores is free of bacterial patogens and
chemical residues, all produce that leaves the farm to a supermarket will
have to contain a certificate saying the produced shipped is certified to be
pure, this will be done daily by independent testing agencies, how this will
play out is anybodys guess, most likely it will put small farmers out of
business.
I meet alot of new comers and backyard hobby farmers who haven't got a clue
how to make proper compost or how to handle and apply manure, let alone farm,
we need to educate the many new folks coming into this business how to handle
manure beform anybody gets sick. lets not poo po the issue of poop by blaming
e coli on Avery...
