Doreen,
Try this "automatic" bottom watering system: Get some large, shallow
plastic containers, the "under-bed" type that are about 6" deep. Put
a piece of foam or other flat top on it and cover it with felt such
that it can go down ino the container. To do this have the sides of
your foam or other tray a bit shorter than the top opening of the
tote. Put some kelp water into the container, wet the felt really
well and put it on your cover. Then set the flats on top of the felt,
pressing gently so the holes in the bottom of the flats make good
contact with the felt. Voila! Automatic bottom watering. I did 3
flats earlier this spring and it worked beautifully.
> And now it's time to check the 512s on the back porch. The one
downside is
> that they can dry out very quickly so they need a lot of supervision
and
> have to be turned at least once every couple of days. I
bottom-water all of
> the seedlings by setting them into an old picnic cooler with an inch
of
> lukewarm water.
