Lucy,

One of our tipsheets "standard containers" lists three resources. (http://bse.wisc.edu/HFHP/VeggyTipSheets.htm) Another is: Monte Packaging (MI) www.montepkg.com, one source you might also try would be any flower bulb importers. Flower bulbs from Europe are shipped over in non-returnable plastic containers that stack but not nest. For importers, these become a waste or by-product. I've seen them go as cheap as 1 dollar a piece for a 6" deep X 16 X 24 inch crate. The biggest drawback to the crates is cost, but they are pretty indestructible. In the grocery industry, the trend is moving toward all reusable containers. See Rehrig Pacific Company, www.rehrigpacific.com they have a series of crates that break down for sanitizing and returning in a closed loop system.

Good luck,

bob

After years of using wooden bushel baskets we are going to get new
harvest containers. We are thinking plastic-stronger, easier to clean
and disinfect, longer lasting and stackable.

The question is does anyone have a good source for some we have looked
at Nolt's offerings and farmwholesale. We are leaning towards the farm
wholesale containers but they are around $7ea and the min order is 100
or each container type you want. Nolt's containers are larger than what
we want but they are a bit cheaper and there is no minimum.

Any other companies out there that make or sell bushel or smaller
containers that can be used in both the field and at market.

What are you all using?
