There is a significant difference in agenda of peddlers and
market gardners.

A peddler is reselling for profit.

A market gardener is gardening for profit.

The peddler can and will buy rejects, substandard grades and
other produce at incredibly discounted rates and sell at the
same prices as a local supermarket. Most people - including
lots of market gardeners - cannot distinguish between a #1
and a #2 or #3 grade.

A market gardener is stuck with what they raise or fail to
raise.

These agendas are what, IMHO, a market rules foundation can
be built on.

It ain't just the profit or market share - it's the quality
and the source. Both quality and source can be inspected at
the market level.

There can be market licenses or waivers for known or
registered growers.

A reseller can be restricted or inspected. A known grower
can be disciplined for pulling reselling stunts without a
paper trail.

A peddler can be mandated to show a paper trail of purchases
and grades. I know it's work but you get what you work for -
not what you pay for.

The customers usually do not claim to know food but they
will respect a self governing effort to insure the quality
or knowledge of what they get and will pay well for good
stuff.
