I've enjoyed the discussion of greenhouses/hoop cold frames and
wonder whether anyone has tried using "thermal mass" in the form
of jugs or drums filled with water and probably painted black to
store heat during the day and release it slowly at night.

I'm getting ready to build a small hoop greenhouse using the plans
from North Carolina State University that I found at:

While I'm not specifically targeting Johnson Grass, I'm preparing
rough pasture by letting my pigs root in strips using hot wire
fencing. I've been told the pigs will root up all the rhyzomes. I'm
interested in having them clear stumps so i've poked holes around
the stumps with a crow bar and put kernel corn in the holes. So far
it's working well.
