FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE

CONTACT: Allan Balliett (304) 724-6763 csa AT claymont.org

WHEN: Saturday, June 24, 2000, 10 -12 AM
WHERE: Claymont Court, Charles Town, WV
WHAT: New Zealand's Glen Atkinson, former garden manager for Weleda Herbs and noted teacher of biodynamic horticulture to speak on "Starting an Herb Garden."

On Saturday, June 24, from 10am to 12 noon, Glen Atkinson, former Manager of Weleda Herb's New Zealand medicinal herb gardens and a noted author and creator of innovative horticultural products based on the insights of Austrian Scientist and educator, Rudolf Steiner, will make his only scheduled public presenation at Claymont Court (a 365 acre organically certified historic estate and home of "Claymont," largest of Shenandoah Valley's "Washington Homes"). The title of the public presentation is "Starting a Medicinal Herb Garden."

The presentation will focus on Albrecht soil science, on building "mineralized" compost piles to boost the medicinal values of herbs, and of biodynamic horticultural techniques in general. (Biodynamics is a system of organic gardening developed by Austrian educator, Rudolf Steiner, in the first quarter of last century.)

There is no charge to the public for this event. For more information, please contact Allan Balliett at (304) 724-6763 or csa AT claymont.org. Space is ample but limited; please RSVP.

For more information about Glen Atkinson and his work, please see his www page at:

Please make plans now to attend the Year 2000 Mid-Atlantic Food and Farming Festival September 29, 30 - October 1 at Claymont Court. This year's conference will feature Native American 'heart speaker,' John Trudell, meals by Chef Collaborative 2000, politically incorrect nutritionist Sally Fallon and presentations by many accomplished biological horticulturists and nutritionists. For more information, contact Allan Balliett at csa@claymont .org
