Dear Ava and Listers,

Ava - thanks for looking at the Website...eeek! I need to get rid of the dead links. But I feel a little like a voyeur on this list serve....watching to see what everyone talks about. Things like the newsletter on http://www.ams.usda.gov/directmarketing are for you. So if you have an event going on or a short article or an idea - they are always most welcome. No sense in us putting together a newsletter that isn't news to a producer. (I am sensing there might be a need for an article on outsiders selling at the market given what Julie and Liz said.)

But right now I have a project assisting a low income farmers market with no farmers. (Well...ok they have 2 lined up and will do some reselling of local produce.) Anyone within 200 miles of Washington DC out there? :0

Julie - I (personally) agree that it isn't right that the ag students can sell and undercut everyone. The advice about contacting the media is dead right. But I would try calling and talking to the professor first if you haven't done so already. Before crying foul - make sure he understands your problems and how bad it will look that an ag university is trying to squeeze out the very farmers it should be helping. If after all the media he says "well they never asked me not to sell" - you and the other vendors will look bad - not him. Isn't this something that could be avoided with a good set of market rules?

I do have a set of market rules that I have gotten from various places if anyone is every looking. They aren't horribly detailed...but the ones I have.

Best regards,
Claire
