Subject: New: Organic, Non-GE*, & Heirloom Vegetable Seed Suppliers List

Announcing this updated web item from ATTRA:

Suppliers of Organic, Non-GE*, or Heirloom (O-P*) Vegetable Seed
http://www.attra.org/attra-pub/altseed.html

The Alternative Seed Suppliers resource list has been maintained by
ATTRA since the mid-90s, compiled in response to queries from farmers
on non-treated seeds for organic production. More recently,
non-genetically engineered seeds and open-pollinated seeds have
been added in response to growing concerns by farmers on these
seed issues.

A coalition of seed companies from the U.S. and Canada has pledged not
to knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds. Signatories
of the "Safe Seed Pledge" include almost all the companies on this
list.

The Safe Seed Pledge:

"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives
depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and
genetically stable source for future generations. For
the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who
want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly
buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants."

The author is Katherine Adam, ATTRA Program Specialist.
