Maybe is it time to throw out a quick intro. I do not know who subscribed me to this list, but thanks it is very interesting.
I am not currently running any sort of farm operation, only a household garden. I grew up on a mixed farm and have kept bees and sold honey in the past. I also have kept a large kitchen garden and we preserved much of our own food for many years.
A few years ago a brush fire took out my hives and burnt my storage with all the extra equipment. I restarted but this last couple of years have been a mess and now my last hive died this very mild winter. I am deciding if I want to start up again or wait for some things to settle down. Bees are also a great thing to just spend time learning. I do want to work with bees but who knows.
This year will also be my first garden in two years. The fire took out most of my citrus trees and badly blackened and charred the garden beds. ( it was a nasty one that burned three homes and several sheds and came to within 40 feet of our house.) We have 2 acres and I was building up a small orchard.
I also have fairly complete woodworking and automotive shops and can do some metal fabrication. Right now there is a 1936 Farmall 12 tractor awaiting for me to complete its engine. Behind that is a 1965 Corvair waiting for the engine I picked up last weekend then a 1950 International A I need to get running to mow the brush around here.
To keep all that going, I do software development.
