I just attended the PASA conference here in Central PA. Two of the
workshops I chose were by Michael Phillips, author of the Apple Grower.
He discussed a new option available for insect control: Kaolin clay.
Sprayed at pink stage, a good covereage of clay repels plum curculio,
codling moth and sawfly. A surfactant needs to be added to the mix.
There's more info at www.engelhart.com, who sells this clay (with
surfactants already added), or it can be purchased from pottery
suppliers. It sounds very promising, and I'm looking to use it to
replace my Imidan spraying.
