We have heard of a slight but not nonexistent risk from bone meal around mad
cow disease. We have quit using it, even with a mask. The dried blood was
just too gross as a product of slaughter houses to feel good about using it
(the same, of course, is true of bonemeal). We use alfalfa pellets or meal
for a N boost these days, economical enough on our small scale.

Yes, your phosphate can be 0-46-0

We mix our own fertilizer from the alfalfa, greensand, kelp, and rock
phosphate (sometimes a little wood ash) from proportions we calculated from
John Jeavons "How to Grow More Vegetables..." We are very satisfied with
the results.
