Hi Rose, you are overlooking the billions of tiny plows that live in your
soil. If you provide them with enough carbon, air, water and a bit of N from
time to time they will keep your soil loose, flocculated, and fertile. As an
example, lay a board in your lawn for 6 months, then pick it up and marvel
at the critters that live under there, and how soft the soil is compared the
surrounding lawn.
