The post driver i use has to be pulled down on the post...hard...you
would stand there all day waiting for the weight of it to drive a post in
hard ground...however...it beats using a maul and it is a one person
job...
a word of caution...if you go to fast you can raise the driver over the
top of the post and it will smack something...usually your face...with
the same force it would have hit the post with...
still a lot safer than a sledge...i chipped pieces the size of quarters
off of posts with a sledge and was just lucky they didn't hit an eye...if
you use a maul or sledge...wear eye protection...
the best time to drive wood posts is in the spring when the frost goes
out and the ground is soft...use a real post maul with a large head
rather than the small headed sledge...it won't beat the top of the post
up
