There are much better sources of rock dust for potash and trace
mineral soil amendments. All rock quarries use siltation ponds to
filter sediment out of their wash water. These are chains of ponds
each containing rock powder of increasing fineness. With some rock
types the last pond contains material so fine you can hardly see the
paritcles, perfect for adding to farm soils as it will break down and
blend with soil particles quicker, affecting drainage less. This
material is usally free or very cheap. It is typically called pond
fines and is 90 to 200+ mesh. I have bought fines from three different
quarries in my area (usually just paid for the hauling) that mine
these rock types: pyrophyllite, granite and basalt/feldspar (bluestone
for driveways). So far I have spread around 18 tons on my gardens.
