Surface grinder self feeding and how to avoid it
I
didnt see you mention coolant, the soft chuck will expand more in the
center if you dont keep it cool, grinder wheels "self feeding" is a very
real issue.
What does "self feeding" mean? Or does it mean the part heats up so it cuts more so it heats up more so it cuts more?
Self feeding means when the part heats and expands it has no where to
go but deeper into the wheel, making more heat and feeding even farther,
its a vicious cycle that should be avoided. Coolant, thinning your
wheel to reduce contact area, reducing the downfeed and decreasing step
over increments will combat this.
