Thanks for your response. I have been away for a while and just returned to
looking at this project. I saw that someone recently updated the wiki with
some information on how to work with lyceum and non-wild card (or how I
referred to as "static" subdomains)

I agree with gauldong that using pre-configured domains and installing lyceum
in its own directory with corresponding subdomain would be a pretty common
requirement.
I guess I want to keep my http://domain.com free for now. In the future I
might incorporate some of the content found on the lyceum portal page there.
I could install lyceum and the portal in a subdomain such as blogs.domain.com
with manually created subdomain blogs such as blog1.domain.com,
blog2.domain.com, etc., which would all run lyceum blogs.
I think that Scot Hacker also mentioned this type of configuration
flexibility in a previous message. I guess I will have to do some more
experimenting...

stephen, subdomains are supported by default. check out the installation
documentation. also this might be more up to date:
