Our wild life are small critters. Hedgehogs or a badger maybe. All the big ones became extinct here long ago.

amazing because it's so rarely done. my women friends all adopt shelter dogs that perform guard duty living in the forests here. they earn their keep. this community is very sensitive to needs of wildlife. here is lunchtime on hwy 73

Our old farm was a regular zoo with more than 20 species doing their bit. We are a long way away from that but give me long enough and we'll get there. Sometimes you pick up injured wild life and they sometimes decide to hang around after healing.

I can only agree with you Paul. We keep the vegetation between the raised beds short by moving cages with guinea pigs over the paths. I have never seen the use of a lawn mower when the job can result in a benefit for free.

You could use a chicken tractor instead.

but they missed some of the most important. You don't walk on the growing soil & you don't compact the soil, for better root systems. You don't need to cultivate the aisles, no need for tiller cost. You concentrate water & amendments on the beds instead of aisles. You can do intensive planting instead of 18 inches between tractor rows, resulting in much higher production overall. And the sides hold mulch in place, saving water & shading shallow roots.
