I Have occasionally bought seeds from realseeds good quality and service. They even advice people to save their own seed from the varieties they sell.
We have no problems with kale outside over the winter as long as we can plant the seedlings in August so that they are strong enough before the real bad weather hits us. The flowering in Spring is something to be seen and they are the main food source of many a bumble bee here.

Hi, I'm putting this on the list tho it was just sent to moi. That's a seed site I'd recommend anywhere. I see a couple kales there that don't look familiar. They say they only sell within the UK, and also to Ireland, France and Spain. BUT - and this has got to be unique in the seed business - they refer us to OTHER seed sellers in those countries & also to my new favorite Adaptive Seeds in the US. Too bad about the postal mess. I wonder if mailorder seed is going the way of the Dodo bird as things get worse for us all.
Hi Paul,
I am so very behind reading your very informative listserv. The Sutherland caught my attention as I just came across seed for sale here in England. It's only a little blurb, but perhaps you will find it interesting.

Hmm. It seems that where we live & grow, & what or IF, often depends on family or other personal considerations -- more than any philosophy or dreams. Still, you can do a lot on one acre with that much experience behind you. We look fwd to hearing more in the future.
For now I'm getting winter greens settled in, tho not early enough to make good mkt harvest yet. This is unfamiliar territory for me, never planned ahead for winter mkts before. Need more beds of Viroflay spinach! More Siberian kale! More arugula! Technically we should have the lattitude for some winter growth; so 7-8 hrs sun & some temperature protection - bed coverings inside unheated greenhouse -will help get some to mkt. At worst we'll get early start on great harvesting in early spring. When too many other growers are straining to sell radishes.
Reminds me: have you heard (anyone) of Sutherland kale from highlands of Scotland? I started some along with Siberian & Western Front.
