You know Mitch, I have sat here for more than ten
minutes thinking about that one sentence of yours and I have not worked it out
completely yet. :)
One aspect that came to mind is that thanks to
cheap oil there has been an overproduction of grain for a long time.This is one
factor that made the flight from the land towards the city possible. Human labor
was no longer needed in agriculture.
Another aspect I thought of was that here in Europe
those in power seem to realise well that a populace can be kept quiet as long as
you give them bread and games. Food has become slightly more expensive but most
other necessities have seen much higher price rises. In October gas goes up by
22 % here. Bread price will hardly change for now.
