I too find the increasing corporate funding behind NPR and PBS disturbing and for the last 6 years, since W replaced a PBS Director who had been upholding editorial independance. Never the less, these 2 channels have only swung partially into that, most of their funding comes out of the public.
Pacifica Radio, OTOH, takes a share out of the dedicated public funding for publicly supported radio, but outrightly rejects any corporate funding that is not attached to one of those employee-generated donations. That is to say, if you work for a corp you can check to see if your company has a matching funds program. Pacifica is a bluntly liberal station, tho it does host conservative shows to reflect it's listenership. Since all the funds that operate the station are public, either direct or otherwise, each of the Pacifica channels are immediatelly responcible to their local listenership. The KKK bombed our local one and it isn't popular with the rest of the Neo-Cons.
Yours, Pego <<<Further, it sounds like you really haven't listened to NPR very much. Most pundits describe NPR as Liberal Extremists.>>E. E. "Mitch" Mitchamore>>> |
