The ash was surprising to me as I thought tomatoes preferred acidic soil and ash should turn it alkaline, correct?

And all this time we thought that the remark "Piss on it!" was of a negative connotation! LOL!

I'd always heard that a 1 to 10 (urine to water) part solution/dilution was advised.  Otherwise risk of nitrogen burn?
