I can attest to this article as my county is border lining severe to extreme drought. It's bad when you can buy, for example, field tomatoes for $4 a box full and cattle from the auction for 17 cents per pound.
I remember an experiment back in the 70's; where they grew crops above a water reservoir. I think they dug a pit, lined it with heavy plastic with an overflow pipe. No idea if they used a type of hardware cloth stretch over the forms, that were above ground, with perforated plastic on top of that. Then a growing medium was added on top of that. When watered from above, the water was caught and held below but water could be added to the reservoir directly to keep it from becoming stagnant. Anyone remember this?
