I also notice that many of these articles never factor in the "member fee " of shopping at this "discount places".

It's interesting that they felt guilty about spending so much after they got
used to being thrifty. For them, it seems to have been a permanent change of
mindset.

One thing the article mentioned that bears repeating: Costco, Sam's Club,
Price Club, B.J.'s, etc., don't take food stamps. This means that some of
the best prices are not available to some of the people who need them the
most.

I noticed also that they spent a lot of time investigating the best way to
eat healthfully on a restricted food budget. Unfortunately, the really poor
often don't have that kind of time. If you're working two jobs and have kids
to take care of, even if both parents are in the home, it's often as much as
anyone can do to just put boxed mac'n'cheese on the table, fill everyone's
glasses with soda or Kool-Aid, and call it supper.
