For at least 10 years, Richard Heinberg, Wendell Berry, James Howard Kunstler, and others including myself have pointed out that modern petro-society spent the last 100 years replacing the 'drudgery' of farm work with oil. Many have also pointed out that one of the best solutions is to reverse the process and put people back on the land to care for it properly.
The corporate farms and processors are putting people on our farms all right: Mexican people who can't complain about the wages without being disciplined or traded for other Mexican people.
Where's the millions of marchers on Washington to stand up for the soil and the honor of having dirty hands?
Why don't our schools teach anyone to farm?
Answer these questions, and we might see the real need for reform.
