Maybe other deer have different habits and
preferences, but our Central Texas Whitetails LOVE to rub their antlers against
thorny species - that doesn't work! Our small Prickly Ash is heavily
damaged every year. When you add the fact that most of these species grow
slowly in this area, you inevitably wind up protecting the barrier for several
years. Faster-growing thorny species, such as Mesquites and Acacias are
heavily browsed. If you have to build a fence anyway, it doesn't make
sense to plan a living barrier.
