Well, it may have been a 'mis-sent' mail on my part-- but-- when searching for grants and other sources of 'free' money-- anything can help-- AS Wayne suggested-- seems a lot of money ISN'T there--- I keep finding grant sources for such projects as infrastructure improvement, fertilizers, soil programs, etc-- even livestock puchases..(oh, to be able to purchase and actually be able to afford the shipping on some heritage livestock breeds!!!) yet so much comes up as a 'dead end' that the small farmer is literally unable to get going unless he/she has a decent source of income to start with.
I look at such things as the 'freecycle' and 'craigs' lists on a regular basis--I pick up every piece of scrap metal I can find, and get cash for it- I buy my cage wire one roll at a time-- building my own cages saves me a LOT of money!!! i want my place to be 'no-till' and raised beds-- but unless I can get the roller and drill myself, it will never happen, because my 'help' insists on using a BIG TRACTOR and tearing up the soil- the end result this year-- nothing but ragweed in a swamp!!! Fortuneately, my rabbits like ragweed-- but I still have to buy hay now!!! And there is no chance of produce income. I am busy repotting what DID come up into large totes, so I can extend their season under a makeshift greenhouse this fall-- herbs can be forgiving!!!
