When I forecast rising prices and harder times, many months ago, it sounded far fetched. And I said it was time to start growing our own. That time has passed.

When I bought two hundred pounds of wheat over the course of a couple of months, everyone I knew thought I was crazy. But I made six loaves of bread yesterday at an average cost of about 50 cents a loaf. And that's real bread, not the white totally nutritionless sponge you buy at the grocery store (which is what that woman in Texas is getting if she's paying $1.09 a loaf).

Even so, the wheat cost twice what it did when I bought the last big batch of it a couple of years ago.
