I am not a scientist however the following makes sense
Cells have their own memory, this could come from primal forces such as love and evil whether they where present before the creation of the universe is unknown
Single cells it is assumed began to respond to light in a liquid environment, from these cells all life originated [what made DNA and RNA to combine to form the first cell is still unknown] this is assumed by exploration into DNA for example humans share 50% of there DNA with plants
Cells have there own memory that is they know whether to become a liver cell or an eye cell or any other cell they know when to live and when to die
It is assumed that when the mind as a thought an electrical impulse is released which stimulates other cells to release chemicals these chemicals are excepted or rejected by other cells in the body for example you may decide to have a drink [this also could be habit] the above process allows you to put your hand to the cup and lift it to your lips and tip into your mouth, this happens along with a million other things your body is doing at the time eg homoeostasis, it is also responding to the estimated 400 bits of info coming into the mind per second
For cells to know what they need requires intense observation, and in fact cells probably need very little eg it is said humans need a wide variety of food is this true? all other animals and plants require very little variety, humans have the ability to adapt from pure meat diet Eskimos to total raw veg diet and survive, if you observe how humans treat other humans in war you can observe they can survive on practically nothing for a long time.
This cellular knowledge is hard for science to prove at the moment, like Love and evil everyone knows that these forces exist but there is no scientific way of proving this
