I've wondered about gypsum. My local hardware store has about a dozen bags of it piled up in front of the store, and I think they've been there about five years now. I've considered offering the owner a price for the lot just so he can get rid of them, but I wasn't sure how much to apply per square foot (they're labeled for golf course use, so the directions may not be appropriate for a vegetable garden).
