Ken, or anyone, this an important question, i think:
does the transformation that happens to manure in
composting, break down such antibiotics into
less-harmful, or even harmless, organic compounds?
just as with the tainted hay story, keep in mind that
a lot of urbanites/suburbanites seeking to get into
organic gardening, may well be unknowingly buying
their compost from commercial sources which may be
using lord-knows-what feedstocks for their
compost--toxic hay? antibiotic-laced manures?
industrial by-products & waste products? etc.
one product/service i hope to get into in the future
is making compost, of course of a clean, reliable type
made from feedstocks known to be safe. i think this
composting is an important endeavor, as these recent
articles show...

I do not know. I have read that they break down but I wonder??
That is one reason I make very little compost. I have a source of unlimited horse manure with bedding. I prefer to use green manure/cover crops to get organic matter in the soil. Much less labor, etc.
