I got this fwd from Charles Martin at NMSU
Farmers Discuss Federal Law
http://www.abqjournal.com/north/576971north_news07-09-07.htm
But what it comes down to is, everybody there only sees it in terms of
getting their piece of the federal pie. Sure, some are historically
disadvantaged, and small farms are left out while big agribusiness makes
out like a bandit on our tax money. I pass it on only to say that's always
a losing battle. Under their schemes family farms have been decimated for
decades, and the independence of rural life has almost been wiped out.
The final solution IMHO is getting outside the system, refusing to be
squeezed between rising costs and falling prices dictated by the corporate
middlemen like ADM, Cargill, and the commodity speculators. It lies in
selling direct to the customer to get the whole retail price, using the
most intelligent and proven growing and marketing practices, and avoiding
federal subsidies with strings attached.
