Folks, i first stumbled upon Mucuna pruriens when i
noted an odd citation in the ethnobotanical literature
to the effect that "velvetbean" yielded a number of
medicinal alkaloids such as L-dopa, a precursor of
dopamine, as well as beta-carbolines, serotonin,
various interesting tryptamines and other alkaloids of
interest from an ethnobotany perspective.
apparently as a medicinal in India, this plant has a
very long history. here's another link detailing the
botanopharmacoepia of this legume:

this thread has piqued my interest in this legume.
has anyone on the list grown this to maturity (ripe
beans) in the northern temperate zones?
