For cheap, quick and permanent raised beds, just get
old tires (preferably not broken on the inside) and
cut off a sidewall.

For Ontario drains, cut a hole in the other sidewall
that will sit on the permafrost. But if you were in a
dry climate, like mine, I would not cut a hole in the
bottom to be assured of more mositure retained longer
in the summer . . .

Line up your tires and screw them together - probably
in double rows to have the minimum of pathway - and
fill with your best soil, or a good mix to compost
over the winter. Be sure to coat the tire with a good
layer of Agricultural Lime, first, to reduce the
acidity of the new soil.

Note, this same configuration can work for a roadway,
if you use a base of a landscape fabric, or plastic
sheet, or old polyester trousers at the base to retain
the gravel fill. Hope you save lots of time and money
and can get on to other more important tasks.

Regards,
Zachary
