Can I take unfinished compost and do the same? I did this last year because
I had nothing else (I suspect that it'll be better settled for this next
season).
BTW - Can anyone recommend a good cover crop to use up here in a bed that's
only about 5' x 12'?

Dear LOTLers, Mark off your bed, plant it in a winter cover crop or bring
in organic matter, free. to use as mulch. Put the mulch as deep as you have
OM. No digging, no tilling, etc. Next spring, plant the bed. Simple,
