It is not just a matter of killing the cover. It is a whole system.
Mowing is nothing like crimping but does kill off the cover, it is also
very expensive, slow, noisy and the residue will break down much faster.
A crimper roller will kill off the cover but preserve the mulch effect
long enough to get a weed suppressing crop canopy established.
The weakness off the system we see is in establishing Spring crops that
can not be established in winterkilled residue [early to mid April in
the NE]or into late May killed covers; and for us that is the bulk of
our crops.
