Ken,
No-till farming yes, green manure tilling no! This may be true about
the some farmers in the Andes of Peru, but I just returned from there and did
not see this practice being done. The limiting factors to it working are
heat, length of the growing season, moisture, cloud cover and plentiful biomass
production. In some areas of the Andes I can see it working very well, but
I can tell you from 30 years of professional and academic experience and as a
farmer myself, it does not work in the high and dry areas of the west, unless
you have lots of irrigation water.
