As I understand it, and per the dictionary, processed means
(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/processed):

1. To put through the steps of a prescribed procedure: processing newly
arrived immigrants; process an order.
2. To prepare, treat, or convert by subjecting to a special process: process
ore to obtain minerals.

I spent many years in the corporate sector and can state that "process"
matches the above definition. But as we're talking agricultural application
I wouldn't have any problem (even though it would present an inconsistency in
the literal sense) with a different definition.

Anyone out there able to provide a solid reference to the contrary?

The word 'processed' (as I understand it) when applied to
foods (in recent, modern times) generally means 'processed
in a factory and made into a food far removed from its
original form'. This would *not* include threshing grain or
other processes easily accomplished at home without special
machinery.
