*** A back-to-the-land online community for self-reliance, networking, and
simple living, for small farm sustainability, rural independence and
security. It is not for promoting politics and we will not waste subscribers'
time with off-topic posts.
*** Our website at http://globalcircle.net carries extensive links &; online
resources for practical knowledge, community self-sufficiency, getting free,
bioregional focus, family freedom, natural health &; survival.
*** A realistic option is rebuilding in rural communities where practical
skills and knowledge can provide a livelihood and sustainable lifestyle. .
*** A lifestyle is sustainable if it meets our needs on an ongoing basis and
provides for the future of the community and the natural world it depends on.
It's not about romanticizing rural days gone by or some far-off Utopia of
peace and harmony, but practical and necessary alternatives to an
overcrowded, commercialized, unhealthy society. It's not the "dropping out"
of the '60s but "dropping in" to a more realistic, affordable, and healthy
way of life..
*** Millions of people everywhere put up with the endless treadmill of
commercial employment and consumption, and see no way out -- two and three
job families with killer mortgages or overpriced anthill apartments,
retirees, single moms and youngsters who can't make ends meet, and the
disabled or unemployable. Yet people in any situation can plan steps to more
personal independence and family well-being, from cutting up the credit cards
to living locally, producing for local consumption or living more outside the
system in relative freedom. .
***
*** "There must be new contact between men and the earth; the earth must be
newly seen and heard and felt and smelled and tasted; there must be a renewal
of the wisdom that comes with knowing clearly the pain and the pleasure and
the risk and the responsibility of being alive in this world." -- Wendell
Berry
